A well-functioning team (think of a team where there are no irritations, quarrels or differences of opinion), sounds ideal. But the occasional argument or disagreement has a function: it promotes creativity and puts people back on their toes. However, when irritations and quarrels get the upper hand, the team can no longer work together constructively and these tensions can even lead to dropout. In this situation, involving a third independent would be an excellent intervention to use.
Space is created.
As a mediator and counsellor I have guided people over the years in conflicts and in all kinds of difficult situations. By sparring together, learning from each other and communicating differently, there is room for an alternative way of working, which in turn leads to better cooperation.
Coaching a team can encompass a workforce team, management, board, partnership, shareholders.
Examples of topics for mediation:
- Management and/or leadership style
- Strength of the team
- Discrepancy in procedure
- Regard
- Dealing with a “difficult” colleague or manager
- Bullying
- Standards and values within a team
